“Spotify to Include Pricing Details in Its App on Apple Devices Across the EU”

Spotify will update its application on Apple devices in the European Union this Wednesday to display the pricing of its various subscription plans and services. This change comes over three months after Apple initially denied such an update.

The denial was linked to Spotify’s refusal to agree to Apple’s Music Streaming Services Entitlement, which are terms set to regulate how music streaming applications in the European Economic Area notify users about alternative purchasing options.

Although Spotify has now agreed to these terms, it will not provide an external purchase link in its iOS app, as it seeks to avoid paying a commission to Apple for these transactions.

Apple has stated that adherence to its music streaming terms does not necessitate an external payment link.

“While we see this as a step forward, it represents only a minor advancement in our ongoing effort to provide iPhone users with the fundamental app experiences they anticipate and deserve,” Spotify commented in a release.

In early April, following a 1.84 billion euro ($2 billion) fine from Brussels for competitive restrictions in its App Store, Apple simplified how music streaming apps interact with users on iOS devices in the EU.

Apple has yet to respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
