Rapper Nelly Arrested in St. Louis on Traffic Charge and Drug Possession Accusations

Early Wednesday morning, rapper Nelly was arrested at a St. Louis casino on an active warrant related to a years-old traffic violation, as reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The warrant was for a missed court appearance concerning a traffic charge from 2018 in Maryland Heights, MO, where he allegedly failed to show proof of insurance.

During his arrest at the Hollywood Casino, authorities discovered four pills on him, preliminarily identified as ecstasy, according to police statements. The Missouri State Highway Patrol noted that Nelly, born Cornell Haynes II, was taken into custody at approximately 4:45 am and later transferred to the Maryland Heights Police Department. He faces potential felony charges for possession of a controlled substance, pending a review by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which has yet to receive the case for formal charges.

Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, argued that the arrest was the result of an “overzealous, out of line officer” who conducted the search without probable cause. Rosenblum expressed confidence that the case would be dismissed and announced plans to seek an inquiry into the officer’s conduct.

In other news, earlier this year, Nelly, known for his hit “Hot in Herre,” made headlines for his engagement to singer Ashanti and their announcement of expecting a baby. The couple confirmed in September 2023 that they had rekindled their relationship, nearly two decades after their initial romantic link, which lasted ten years.
