Netflix Officially Greenlights ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ with Adam Sandler

Netflix has officially greenlit a sequel to the beloved 1996 comedy, Happy Gilmore, with Adam Sandler set to return in his iconic role as the unconventional golfer.

During a presentation to advertisers, Netflix confirmed that it is progressing with Happy Gilmore 2. Adam Sandler, along with co-writer Tim Herlihy, originally crafted a story about an ice hockey player turned golfer who leverages his anger to succeed in professional golf, making the original film a fan favorite.

While details about the storyline, writer, or director for the sequel remain under wraps, the anticipation is already building. Sandler hinted at the project’s development during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, playfully urging secrecy about the ongoing work.

Drew Barrymore also hinted at the exciting news on her talk show, intriguing audiences by confirming that the sequel is underway.

Christopher McDonald, who portrayed the antagonist Shooter McGavin in the original, teased the possibility of his character’s return. In a recent interview, he shared a conversation with Sandler, who excitedly revealed a draft of the new script.

Sandler’s ongoing $250 million deal with Netflix has already produced several projects, from the controversial The Ridiculous Six to the critically acclaimed 100% Fresh stand-up special. His latest project, the well-received teen comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, premiered last August, adding to his diverse portfolio on the platform.
