Keanu Reeves Reflects Emotionally on ‘The Matrix’ Impact Over 25 Years

Keanu Reeves has made a significant mark in the film industry with numerous iconic movies, but “The Matrix” holds a special place as a standout sci-fi classic in his career. During a recent episode of “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, as they discussed the anniversaries of his major films, it was highlighted that “The Matrix” is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Colbert prompted Reeves to reflect on his most cherished memories from the film.

Reeves emotionally shared how “The Matrix” not only transformed his life but also positively impacted countless others. “It’s amazing as an artist to see the effect your work can have on people,” he expressed. Reeves has been involved in all four “Matrix” films, with the latest, “The Matrix Resurrections,” released in 2021.

The original “Matrix” film, featuring Reeves alongside Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, and Carrie-Anne Moss, delves into a dystopian future where humanity is ensnared in a simulated reality, with Neo (played by Reeves) joining a group of rebels to fight this oppression. The movie was a massive box office success, grossing over $467 million and securing four Academy Awards. Over the past 25 years, the “Matrix” series has accumulated nearly $2 billion globally.

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, which owns the rights to the “Matrix” films, has announced that a fifth installment is currently in development, although it is still unclear if Reeves will return to his iconic role. Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group is part of Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN.
