“‘Inside Out 2’ Sets Record as Pixar’s Highest-Grossing Global Film”

Pixar and its parent company, Disney, are celebrating a significant achievement.

“Inside Out 2” has now surpassed “Incredibles 2” with its $1.242 billion earnings to become the highest-grossing Pixar film worldwide, positioning it fourth among all animated films globally. With $1.251 billion already amassed from global ticket sales—including $543.5 million in North America and $708 million internationally—the film’s success trajectory suggests it may soon claim the top spot.

Despite not having premiered in Japan yet, where it is anticipated to perform strongly (mirroring its $49 million success in South Korea), “Inside Out 2” is poised to exceed the earnings of Walt Disney Animation’s “Frozen” and potentially surpass “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” The ultimate goal is to overtake “Frozen II,” which stands at $1.451 billion.

The film’s appeal extends beyond families, resonating with teens and young adult women who remember the original 2015 “Inside Out.” In Latin America, it’s making history, especially in Mexico and Brazil, with Europe also returning strong numbers, including significant earnings in the U.K./Ireland and Italy.

In the U.S., “Inside Out 2” is expected to soon outgross “Super Mario” and might even surpass “Incredibles 2” in North American sales, having already outperformed “The Dark Knight.”

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the sequel explores new emotional dynamics as new characters like Anxiety, Envy, and Embarrassment join the familiar emotions in young Riley’s mind as she enters her teenage years.

The film not only serves as entertainment but also as an educational tool, with many educators and psychologists endorsing its depiction of the emotional complexities of puberty.

Critically acclaimed and achieving a record-high audience score, “Inside Out 2” reached the $1 billion mark faster than any other animated film and is the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far. This success is particularly poignant for Pixar, which faced challenges with previous films released directly to streaming.

The voice cast is led by Amy Poehler as Joy, with notable contributions from Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, and others, marking a vibrant ensemble that mirrors the film’s dynamic emotional range.
