Ingrid Andress Apologizes for Drunk Anthem at Baseball Game

Country singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress admitted on social media to being intoxicated while performing the national anthem at this week’s annual Home Run Derby.

“I was drunk last night,” Ms. Andress shared on Instagram on July 16. “I’m entering a treatment center today to receive the help I need. That wasn’t me last night.”

A four-time Grammy nominee, Ms. Andress is known for hits like “More Hearts Than Mine,” “Wishful Drinking,” “We’re Not Friends,” and “Seeing Someone Else.”

The 32-year-old delivered an off-key rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on July 15. Her performance quickly went viral.

Addiction experts commended her candidness, though fan reactions on social media were mixed.

“Austin Wynn, founder of Never Alone Recovery, emphasized the importance of Ms. Andress’ forthcoming communications post-rehab,” reported The Epoch Times on July 17. “A graceful comeback could boost her popularity.”

Never Alone Recovery offers weekly online support meetings and coordinates interventions for families dealing with addiction.

Ms. Andress has not revealed her rehab location and remained unresponsive to further comments.

Before her performance, she informed fans via a newsletter about parting with certain individuals, which plunged her into what she termed as ‘depression.’

Brook Bardin, a licensed clinical social worker, suggested these might have been toxic relationships, potentially exacerbating her struggles.

Reaction on social media ranged from criticism to support, with some alleging the incident was a publicity stunt, while others accused her of lacking talent.

Ms. Andress apologized to the MLB and her fans, promising updates from rehab, humorously noting, “I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid.”

Ms. Bardin praised Andress’s humor during this tough time, mentioning that while rehab involves intense therapy and communal activities, displaying vulnerability could resonate with many.

Ms. Andress also promoted her new single “Colorado,” reflecting on her roots and the clarity her home state brings.

Fame, as noted by Mr. Wynn, often complicates personal issues, heightening the pressures on public figures like Ms. Andress.
